"You can’t escape BBC iPlayer.

From the Nintendo Wii to the Sony Ericsson W995, it’s getting everywhere. And now you can add the FetchTV’s Smartboxes to the list.

But why’s it any different to its rivals? How about offering BBC iPlayer and stacks of other VOD on a set top box without a monthly fee?

Read on to find out where and when you can snag one.

FetchTV’s Smartboxes have only one thing on its TV loving mind – video on–demand. Connect it up to your broadband and you’ll now be able to catch up on Eastenders and, um, Totally Saturday using BBC iPlayer, as well as getting the goods from Channel 4, Cartoon Network. In all IP Vision, the team behind the Smartbox, says there’s a massive 1,500 hours of VOD goodies to be watched.

This marks a first for a set top box. Normally to nab BBC iPlayer through one you need a subscription from the likes of Virgin Media. The other alternative is to use your Wii or PS3. But then those don’t come with too many extras.

Hopefully FetchTV’s new BBC iPlayer deal means more Freeview boxes will be getting involved with Auntie’s biggest hit since Noel’s House Party.

Out now | £219 | FetchTV (http://www.fetchtv.co.uk/index.asp?PageID=2145873525)
